Heading to LA / Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica Pier

We did it!!! We actually got in the car and headed to California!!! Man I had been wanting to do this FOREVER.  Just our little family going on a fun vacation together. The best part is we didn't really have set plans. We had ideas of what we wanted to do but mostly just wanted to Beach hop and then decide if we wanted to his up Universal Studios or something like that. We stopped part way there after Vegas to check out the 7     . It was such a pretty place! It was getting dark but we still managed to get some cool pictures of the colorful rocks. Then we just kept on heading through straight to Cali. Craziest story...We didn't pull into California till around 11:00 at night. We were running low on gas but Toby thought we could make it. I was worried and mentioned so but really there weren't a whole lot of gas stations off to the side. Those freeways are crazy and we mostly were just focused on finding the right exits etc to our hotel. Well with about 10 miles to go the car starts slowing down. I of course start panicking. There were semi's all around us and no real place to pull off. Toby managed to get to the side right as the car would go no further, and of course we were on some kind of curve where we couldn't really see the cars coming up behind us well. To say I was freaked out was an understatement. Toby basically just jumps out of the car and starts running. No plan, no explanations. The kids wake up and even Elle starts screaming "Dad NO!" Trying to keep them all calm was not fun, especially Tate. We said a prayer and I assured them everything would be okay. About 30 mins later Toby came back and filled the tank with a gallon, enough to get us to a gas station. I was still so worried about him on the side of the road. Freaky Freaky Freaky. But he did it. Took care of us and we pulled into our hotel about midnight. So grateful! The next day was spent playing in the sand, building sandcastles, playing in the waves, eating food, picking up seashells, and then walking around Santa Monica Pier. The kids played some carnival games and went on the big roller coaster. Cash had a fun time learning how to do the rings on the beach and climbing the rope. It was pretty awesome watching him do that and having some guy on the beach take the time to help him. I love this family so much. Looking forward to a couple of pretty wonderful days!!!
