Elle's Birthday in NYC! Day THREE

Day 3 was an extra special day in NYC because it was Elle's 14th BIRTHDAY!!! She woke up with balloons on the ceiling and a fun breakfast planned so no breakfast in bed. Actually the hotel had a little cake with her name on it when we first got there which I thought was so sweet! We had a full day planned for her and it was full of some of the best things NYC has to offer. We took the subway and headed down to the south end of Manhattan to go to breakfast at Bubby's! It's such a fun and yummy place that Toby enjoyed our first time here so we were excited to take her there. The kids loved it! From there we headed to the 911 Memorial. It is absolutely one of the more sobering and sacred places I've been. It's so thought provoking and there is such a feeling of reverence there. I loved being able to share the history there with the kids and teach them about some of the events that occurred and some of the heroic stories that took place. Such beautiful memorials. From there we headed toward the Statue of Liberty but on the way may a quick stop at the Trinity Church which ended up being a huge highlight for Elle. She LOVES the story of Hamilton and without us even knowing it that is where he and his wife and family were buried. Elle was so excited to see it and knew about it from a song she knows. It was pretty cool we happened upon it "accidentally". Then we got her a pink drink and headed toward the Statue of Liberty. Instead of doing what Toby and I did last time we decided to take the Staten Island Ferry for free which goes right past it. It was a brilliant idea and way less time consuming than what we did before. We got great positioning on the boat and got some beautiful pictures. I always feel like I'm on a movie or something when I see it up close like that. It's such a surreal feeling because it's such a famous thing. I just love it. Then we flipped around when we were on Staten Island and headed back!
After that adventure we walked toward the Brooklyn Bridge but took a quick stop for some ice-cream and to give our legs a break. Then we walked towards the bridge, another of my favorite places. Elle was started to get tired at this point but we really wanted to walk across it so she was a good sport on her birthday and walked the whole way with us. IT WAS AWESOME. Wish it wasn't so crowded but we got some great pictures. I think it is one of the coolest places. After that we headed toward the flat iron building and little Eataly. This is where Elle kind of broke down. We thought she'd love Little Eataly but I think at that point her legs were hurting her and she was hitting a wall. We got some yummy pizza and pasta there and rested and we were hoping to keep going on to the Empire State building and Madison Square Garden but seeing as it was Elle's birthday and she was done we got an uber and headed home to rest before the broadway show at night. We went to see PHANTOM of the OPERA. We got cheap ticket so we were on the very back row but it was still incredible and Elle loved it! (minus the distracting teenagers next to us.) We ended the night by stopping at a little corner shop by our hotel we loved and got dessert and then went back to the hotel. I'm hoping it was a birthday Elle won't ever forget. Pretty special day!!! Love that girl and loved celebrating her in one of our favorite cities.
