January

Well January is usually quite a dull month, especially following the months of October, November, and December and all of the Holiday festivities so we decided to shake it up a bit and make January EPIC. For the kids main Christmas present we gave them their first CRUISE!!! Actually funny story as they were opening up their towels and sunscreen and note explaining it all I look at Kemps face and he looks like he’s going to cry. And then he did cry. I guess with this whole celiac thing it just had him extra worried about leaving our house and he didn’t want to go anywhere. Poor kid. He’s so worried about not finding any food he can eat. But we calmed him down and showed him pictures of where we’d be going and when we told him the Ashby’s would be joining us that seemed to do the trick. We did a 5 day cruise to Cabo, Mazatlan, and then Puerto Vallarta. We drove to the port at LA while the Ashbys flew and then we just met on the boat! My goodness we had fun! Buffets, pina coladas, hot tubs, nachos, ping pong, rock climbing, surf riders, movies nights, shows, basketball tournament, dodge ball, you name it…we did it. Eating dinner together was one of my favorite parts. The kids all loved it. Oh and we brought Taygen with us so Elle would have a girlfriend to hang with. It was awesome. The first port we went to was Cabo. We rode on a glass boat out to lovers arch and took some super fun pictures. Then we went and got food at Hard Rock Cafe which was delicious. Then we just walked around Cabo and did some fun souvenir shopping. Cabo was a beautiful place. Next stop the next day was Mazatlan. I think this was everyone’s favorite day. We got on a shuttle and went to a place that Tara had previously arranged where they came and got us all on a boat and drove us out to our own private island. I’m not kidding it was amazing. We could snorkel, paddle board, just chill, and they brought us all lunch (street tacos) out there. The kids were all in heaven. It was so relaxing and just so fun. Then we went back and did more sight seeing and shopping. Best Day Ever. Next port was Puerto Vallarta. This one we were just going to take it easy and chill on the beach all day. Which we did but we had some guys approach us about whale watching. Tara and I and Elle wanted to go but the others really didn’t. We tried hard to talk them into it but it was a no go so eventually we gave up and decided to just go the girls. BEST DECISION EVER! It was so cheap and honestly seemed pretty sketchy but we only went a mile or so away from shore when right in front of us a whale totally breached! And then did it again!! And then again and again and again. We saw 5 different breaches and one of them was so close it was UNREAL. Seriously so magical. I wanted to cry. We were all freaking out and I swear it’s something we’ll just never forget. Wish so badly the boys would have come. They would have loved it. But they had a blast chillin back at the beach then we did more souvenir shopping and headed back to the ship. We enjoyed our last night of eating, and relaxing and then headed home the next day. It was a wonderful trip and so easy and I everyone just loved it. The teenagers got to feel like they were on their own a bit but we kept meeting up and  it was just wonderful. The trip of lifetimes and memories we’ll always have.
Other than that January was pretty uneventful really. Some basketball games, some family game nights, a snow day, and making it through the January blues. But a cruise sure helped with that!
